Shangri-La Sydney

The hotel is located in the CBD, a block from the Four Seasons and a couple blocks from Circular Quay. The property is large with 565 rooms and suites.  It is the tallest Virtuoso hotel in Sydney with no other buildings in front of it, allowing for stunning harbor views.

The Horizon Club is quite special at this particular property.  In the picture below, if you notice the rectangle towards the top of the building that is different than the rest – that is the Horizon Club.  This Club is unique in you have to stay in a qualifying room – whether a Horizon room or suite.  Guests cannot buy into it.  The Lounge has all the features one would expect, breakfast, snack offerings, cocktails in the evening, etc.

All bathrooms have single vanities, stand alone showers and soaking bathtubs.  The hotel features L’Occitane amenities.

The entry level room is a Deluxe Darling Harbour View Room.  Here is the view from the room, which is otherwise identical to the room I stayed in regarding layout and offerings:

My favorite room category is the Executive Grand Harbour View Suite.  As a suite, guests are also granted access to the Horizon Club.  The views are of both the opera house and bridge.

The bedroom (king bed) is separate from the lounge room, which has a queen size sofa bed, so perfect for families.

The bathroom is gorgeous – the windows are larger and provide great views at sunset.  If you look in the mirror, you even see the bridge as you are preparing for the day!

The Horizon Club is quite exclusive at this particular property. Although they do not have an outdoor area, the views are expansive and gorgeous.

The hotel has a spa, gym (personal trainers are available), pool, jacuzzi tub, and restaurants.  Café Mix is the restaurant for breakfast.  On Friday and Saturday evenings, it features a special seafood buffet.  The restaurant in the lobby has three types of tea offerings – afternoon, high, and chocolate tea.  They also have a lounge/bar on the same floor as the Horizon Club, which is quite popular for after work cocktails.

I do have a few mixed feelings on Shangri-La Sydney.  I love the room décor and product itself.  The hotel has many choices to eat, plenty to do, etc.  But, because they are so big, they do lose the personal feeling.  Going from the Langham to the S-L, I really noticed how busy the lobby was at all times.  For me, I want quiet when I am traveling since my life at home is quite loud with my two little ones, but not everyone wants it as quiet as I do.

The Shangri-La Hotel Sydney is a Virtuoso property and through our partnership, I am proud to offer the following amenities: upgrade on booking, subject to availability; full breakfast buffet daily for two guests; a $100 USD equivalent Food and Beverage credit; and early check in/late check out, based on availability.
