Fairmont Chateau Whistler

I stayed for two nights at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler. The hotel is historic, built in 1914 as the Rainbow Lodge and has 539 rooms.  I struggled a bit with the hotel and will get into this more in the specific rooms.  The property is ski in/out and is an incredible location at the base of the mountains.  The hotel also is affiliated with a 72 par, 18 hole golf course.  The property is quite huge and a complex with 6 dining options, shopping, and pretty much most of what you could ever want to do all close by.

I was in a Deluxe Slopeside View room, 400 SF.  I had a gorgeous view of the Blackcomb base and slopes. My room overlooked the pool too.  The washrooms were recently renovated.  My struggle with the property….since it is a historic property, they are limited to what they are allowed to do for renovations.  I was in a 4th level room category (and top level standard room) and the washroom was small.  It was fine for me, but for two people it would be extremely cozy.  And I did not like the décor at all. I felt the carpet needed replaced and when I asked, I found out it was new, less than a year old.  It just looked old, to match the history of the property.

At turndown, I received water only.  I find Fairmont properties to not always be consistent with this service as some put chocolates in the room and some, like this one, do not. I know in the club rooms and suite levels this inconsistency rarely exists.

I did get to see some other rooms. The best rooms with great space and different décor are Alpine Suites.  They had blue tones with stone work and quite lovely. They are 600 SF, have a fireplace, a more modern washroom although with only one vanity.

The best room for space is no surprise, the one bedroom suite.  There is one with two queen beds, but I saw the Luxury One Bedroom Mountain View suite with a king bed and 800 SF. It has a door to separate the sleeper sofa bed from the master bed and one and a half baths. The washroom does have a stand alone shower and soaking tub.

As with other Fairmont properties, there is a club level.  The evening spread is quite nice. The rooms were also a higher quality than non club rooms.

The hotel has a fantastic indoor/outdoor pool.  They have a lap pool, several jacuzzi tubs, and a dry sauna inside that overlooks the pool.  In the respective shower rooms are steam rooms. I never made it to the gym to see it.

I had a delightful meal at The Grill Room in their private dining room.  I highly, highly recommend reserving the space, it is very special.  It was probably my favorite part of my whole stay at the property.  The evening view in the winter with snow was almost magical. The food was delicious too.

The Fairmont Chateau Whistler is a Virtuoso property and through our partnership, I am proud to offer the following amenities: upgrade upon arrival, subject to availability; breakfast daily for two guests; souvenir martini shaker set plus voucher for two signature martinis during stay; and early check in/late check out, based on availability.
