At the end of January, I traveled to Dallas for the South Central Virtuoso Regional Meeting, hosted by the Four Seasons Resort Dallas at Las Colinas. This was my first time visiting Texas in a very long time and I was looking foward to a break from the cold Idaho weather. Unfortunately, my wish for warmth was not granted, but I did have a fun visit at the Four Seasons.
The property is a quick 15-20 minute trip from DFW airport and is in the town of Las Colinas, not Dallas, as the name indicates. Check in was quick, I was given a map of the property (this is a good thing, I will explain soon) and a golf cart escort to my room. The property is configured with the main building hosting some rooms, the conference center, ballroom, spa, restaurants, and lounges. Four separate villas also host guest rooms, referred to as the club, east, west, and south villas. My room was in the east villa, which is close to the practice range and beside the 18th hole.
My room was perfectly acceptable. I had a roommate at the event, so we had a double room with two queen beds. The bed was very comfortable and I slept great both nights. The bathroom had a double sink, bath tub, toilet room, and shower. The toiletries were l’Occitane branded. I really liked the shampoo, but not the conditioner.
My only complaint about the room and my stay in general is I did not like being in the east villa as it was quite far away from main building. Normally, I don’t mind this arrangement as I like walking and getting exercise, but this weekend was a little rainy and I was in business attire (and heels) most of the weekend. They do have a golf cart service to escort you from building to building, but at a conference with several hundred people, there were not enough golf carts available for this to be a consistent option. Most of the time, I just walked up the hill to the main building instead of waiting for a cart to become available. If you are a guest with mobility issues, it would be imperative to be in the main building and not a villa.
The property has a pavilion where our cocktail hour, breakfast, and lunch were held. This is a great little space for a wedding reception or private party. As I expected, the food was always delicious and I had no complaints. Okay, maybe one, they had a LOT of sweets which were too hard to resist trying several. 🙂
This resort is well known for its spa and golf course. I visited the spa twice and was in heaven both times. On Friday, I had some time in before the conference and visited the gym first. The resort has the most comprehensive sporting complex I have seen at a hotel. The exercise room is currently undergoing a renovation and we were in a temporary room, but it wasn’t an issue with plenty of equipment to chose from. While working out, the attendants would bring guests cold towels and drinks. They had water and two types of crystal light (fruit punch and lemonade) to offer. If equipment or weights is not your preference, there is plenty to chose from between racquetball ans squash courts, fee based exercise classes, jogging tracks, four swimming pools, and a half court basketball court.
I then went to the spa. The spa entrance is through the salon and the two are a full service, European style spa with private treatment rooms, a relaxation area, outdoor spa pool and cuisine available for order. The spa has locker rooms, sauna, steam room, whirlpool and cold plunge pool facilities for each gender. I did partake in any of the by appointment items as I do not always know how much free time I will have at quick stays like this one. But, I love visiting the steam room and sauna! I have discovered I really love steam rooms. This steam room was scented with eucalyptus. It was REALLY strong – almost too strong – but I did have much clearer sinuses when I was done, so maybe it wasn’t a bad thing! Outside the steam room are cold wash clothes with cucumbers. The sauna was a standard sauna. I didn’t brave the plunge pool on my first visit nor the whirlpool. I ordered a smoothie and it was delicious. Other items are available for order and complimentary tea and water are available.
I dropped back into the spa on Sunday morning before continuing on with my trip. This time, I did jump into the plunge pool and although it was cold, I did feel great after. The whirlpool was fantastic. One thing to note about the spa is it is absolutely gorgeous! The whirlpool is set under sky lights that have almost a gazebo look. The area is beautiful with lots of areas to sit, read magazines, and relax. My only regret is not spending much, much more time in this stunning and relaxing spa.
Last but not least, the resort also have an award winning 18 hole, par 70 TPC Four Seasons Las Colinas golf course. It hosts the PGA event, the AT&T Byron Nelson Championship. In addition to this course is the Cottonwood Valley Golf Course. If your golf skills need some refining, private golf instruction or a golf school is available.
I was satisfied with my stay at this Four Seasons property, although I did feel like I was in the “back 40” when trekking to the conference center. The property is great for golfers or for those wanting a quiet spa weekend.
As this is a Virtuoso property, I am proud to offer the following amenities: Upgrade on arrival, subject to availability; continental breakfast, for up to two in room guests; and $100 USD Resort or Hotel credit, to be utilized during stay (not combinable, no cash value if not redeemed in full).
