St Regis Hotel, Dubai
The St Regis is new, just opened in 2016 and is attached to the W Hotel and the Westin. It looks tiny in comparison at just 6 stories where the other two are much, much taller. It is on a side of Dubai that is being developed and across the road from the brand new Dubai Canal. From the airport, with traffic being easy, it is about a 20-30 minute drive.
We got to the hotel about 8 pm on a Thursday evening, which is the start to their weekend. The hotel lobby is absolutely stunning. Definitely one of the prettiest I have seen. It had hints of local culture here and there with items like a huge painting of a hunter on horse with a falcon. At check in, they offered a cool towel, coffee and water. Check was quick and we were off to our room, 560.
Our escort offered us a quick tour of the room and went over any features we had questions on. The view wasn’t anything too exciting – the Dubai Canal was out our window, which is brand new and the landscaping not complete. We could see one of the palace’s though, but I have no idea which one as I kept forgetting to ask.
Here is something I learned though…On the ceiling is a sticker, pointing NE towards Mecca, so Muslims know which direction to pray. Pretty cool and I was glad it was shown and explained. The room did have a prayer mat too, tucked into a drawer under the TV.
The room was a Grand Deluxe room and 590 SF or 55 SM. It was very comfortable for the two of us. The King bed was so comfortable, although with jet lag, I didn’t sleep much. The water isn’t good for drinking, so bottled water is provided as much as needed. The plugs were universal, so no adapter was needed.
The bathroom was huge – marble throughout, two separate vanities, which is a dream come true for two women traveling together. I took a bath twice and was in love. I love, love, deep soaking tubs. They help me so much when traveling to relax. The shower was huge and had a bench for sitting, marble of course. The property features Remede amenities throughout.
At the St Regis Dubai, all rooms come with a butler. We used the butler for cappuccino in the morning when we were getting ready, to deliver more water, and we did take advantage of having two items pressed daily to remove the wrinkles from traveling. After that, we didn’t have them do anything as our days were already full and busy.
Here is a fun travel tip – always go to the St Regis bar and order a bloody mary. They are the signature drink of the hotel chain and each hotel creates their own version. Here in Dubai, they feature yellow tomato juice to cut the acid down and top it with gold flake. It was spicy and very delicious.
Brasserie – we ate there out first evening and also for brunch. The evening meal we did the price fix of small plates and had more than enough food. For brunch the next day, we did see several of the same items, but there was so much food at brunch you couldn’t complain about the repeaters. Brunch is a HUGE deal in Dubai…very traditional for locals, especially expats. Alcohol can only be had in hotels, so the brunch at St Regis, which includes alcohol, is very, very popular.
Only downside – the property currently seems far away from other things. It does have a tram stop near. With Dubai and it’s ever changing landscape, I doubt it will stay this way for long. It isn’t very busy, which could be a good or bad thing.
The St Regis Dubai is a Starwood Luxury Privileges property and through our partnership, I am proud to offer the following amenities: upgrade upon arrival, subject to availability; full breakfast daily for two guests; a $100 USD equivalent food and beverage credit; and early check in/late check out, based on availability.
