As part of my trip, I did a two night stop in Hong Kong. I really appreciate Hong Kong – it is such an easy city to get around and as a solo female traveler, I feel completely safe. I spent both nights at the Intercontinental Hong Kong, which is on the Kowloon side of Victoria Harbour.
When staying in downtown Hong Kong, two options exist – the Kownloon or the Hong Kong island side. Both have its perks and it is a matter of preference both for places to stay and things to do. The metro travels to both sides of the harbour and the Star Ferry is a quick 10-15 minute ride.
The Intercontinental is located right on the water overlooking the Avenue of Stars. Being on the Kowloon side means they are in a fantastic location for watching the nightly Festival of Lights. The property was originally built in 1980 and has 503 rooms and suites.
I was staying in a Harborview Room and really enjoyed it. The view was outstanding and both nights I went to sleep with the blinds open and lights from the buildings twinkling across the harbour. The room was ample for a solo traveler and I had no complaints.
I also was able to tour the Deluxe Harborview room. It is almost identical to my room, but with a larger bathroom.
The Intercontinental Club can either be purchased as an upgrade or through a club rate. It offers breakfast, afternoon tea, evening canapes and drinks. The location is another great spot to sit and watch the Festival of Lights.
The property has a fantastic pool and sauna. I really enjoyed hanging out in the infinity sauna and just absorbing all the sights nearby across the harbour. I didn’t take any pictures because there were always guest in there and no one wants a picture of them in their swimming suit posted for the interweb to see. 🙂
With some awesome jet lag, I was able to get up nice and early to hit the gym. The property has a great gym with lots of choices and plenty of machines. It is next door to the spa, which was also quite large with many treatment rooms. One unique feature is some of the treatment rooms not only have massage tables but also hot tubs (or saunas, which ever term you prefer) so the guest can relax in private.
The Intercontinental Hong Kong is a property where one should never worry about going hungry. They have several restaurants, including a daily breakfast and lunch buffet, which looked amazing, and the 2 Michelin star restaurant, Yan Toh Heen, where I had a lovely lunch on my visit.
As this is a Virtuoso property, I am proud to offer the following amenities: Upgrade upon arrival, subject to availability; daily full breakfast, for up to two in room guests; $100 Food and Beverage credit; and early check in/late check out, based on availability.
the view from room must be awesome!
It was!! I slept with the blinds open both nights just so I could stare out a little bit longer.
Awesome!
