The Langham Sydney

The Langham Sydney is part of the Central Business District, or CBD, but does not have the same views as the other Virtuoso properties in the CBD.  Instead, it faces the Darling Harbour.  The property is in a historic neighborhood surrounded by houses on the National Historic register and just beneath Observation Hill.  It is away from the ferry terminal and the busyness of downtown.  It is an easy walk to most everything – the ferries, train, Opera House, etc are all about 15 minutes.  Just down the street are some old historic pubs, too.

The Langham had a major remodel in 2014 and is a very lovely place to stay.  White is the primary color and the property is light and airy.  The rooms feature Parisian style shutters and the furniture is hand crafted.  Pink is a signature color of Langham as it was the favorite of the owner/founder’s wife and seen in details throughout the property in places, like at check in with the bouquets of pink roses.

The property has 98 rooms and suites and I stayed in the Deluxe room. They were full the night before I arrived so they couldn’t accommodate a 7:30 am check in, but had my room ready at 11.  The pool is amazing, so I went down to it and had a shower, swam, sat in the steam room and just relaxed.  It was a great way to adjust and I highly recommend it.  The spa and gym are on the same level as the pool, so there is plenty to do if you arrive early and do not want to go out to the city.  The pool is 20 meters, heated and has a Jacuzzi too.

My room faced Observation Hill.  With the building being older, you do hear outside noise more than in a newer property, but it wasn’t obtrusive.  There was some construction on the house across the street and during the day (it was 2 pm) I heard it, but they had stopped at the end of the day and my sleep was sound and not disrupted.  The room is quite large and was great for my one night stay.  It is the lead in category and 527 SF or 49 SM.

The hallway picture below is looking at the exterior door with the closet directly to the left and between the closet door and the exterior door, the entrance into the bathroom. The bathroom featured a double vanity, stand alone shower and large soaking tub.  The amenities are Chuan, which was a new brand for me.  They had one of the better selections of toiletries I have experienced with the standard items, but also talcum powder and a hair tie.

The hotel has a bar and restaurant and offers a really nice afternoon tea.  Even if you are not staying at the property, it is a fantastic place to enjoy tea.  I had a flat white and scones.  I had lunch in the restaurant, which just changed their menu and style and was very pleased.  A beer and cauliflower risotto was a perfect lunch.

I really appreciated the Langham and highly recommend it.  It is a quiet oasis so close to a busy downtown.
